Research Project

Exploring Positionality Among Women Trainers in Security and Intelligence

Dr Brooke Shannon is conducting research exploring how women trainers in the fields of security and intelligence negotiate their positions across multiple social identities, such as gender, nationality, age, and organisational affiliation, in cross-cultural training environments. The dynamics of in-group and out-group membershipsthat shift the positionality of all participants and challenge predominant gender norms are discussed. Recommendations are provided for designing and implementing cross-cultural training.

The results of the study will be published in Aviva Guttmann's (ed) forthcoming book "Women in Intelligence".
